Read the exact meter message and identify the model before choosing a response. “Used”, “reject”, a communication failure and a technical supply condition do not mean the same thing. An information code reads a value; it does not automatically repair the condition.
Record model, message and transaction separately
Take the manufacturer/model from the equipment label without opening it. Record the indoor interface separately on a split installation. Keep the exact displayed text or symbol, whether the token was accepted and the purchase reference. A receipt proves a purchase, not that the meter accepted it.
Use the brand/model hub for documented information commands. For water interfaces, use the Utility Systems guide or the appropriate manufacturer's instructions rather than applying electricity codes.
Documented messages and their meaning
| Scope / message | Documented meaning | Next useful check |
|---|---|---|
| Listed Hexing HXE110/HXE310 models: FAILed | Interface-to-meter communication failure | Normal power/communication setup and model-specific guidance, not another credit purchase |
| Listed Hexing models: USEd | Token already loaded to that meter | Loading history, current balance and usage since acceptance |
| Listed Hexing models: reject indication | Entry not accepted | Full meter number, token digits and issuer investigation |
| Conlog BEC44X: flashing bar graph | Trip-condition information available | Documented #073# information read and exact condition for support |
| Conlog BEC44X: technical tamper indication | Administrator/technical condition | Authorised inspection and instructions; no generic internet reset |
| Gemini HMI: duplicate / expired / overflow outcome | Distinct token-processing outcomes in the model guide | Exact displayed result and original receipt for the administrator |
| Eskom guide: Conn_FAIL / E07 | Communication problem in the equipment covered by its guidance | Use the installed model's normal connection and power instructions |
| Eskom guide: OUEr_Por | Load/overload condition | Normal load reduction where safe and authorised supply guidance |

Choose the right investigation
- No token after payment: recover the existing purchase from the seller.
- Token received but rejected: compare the complete intended meter number and exact token.
- Already used: check whether someone loaded it and what was consumed afterwards.
- Communication failure: investigate the interface and meter connection using the correct manual.
- Credit but no supply: report the actual load-switch, outage or technical indication.
The token rescue guide gives the detailed purchase/acceptance decision process. This reference keeps the display meaning and scope visible so that all symptoms are not collapsed into “invalid token”.
What a code cannot fix
A wrong-meter token does not become valid by changing a saved beneficiary label. An alarm-silencing command does not add credit. An information register does not re-key a meter. A positive balance does not establish that supply is physically connected.
Commissioning, tamper clearing, pairing and physical repair are not universal resident commands. Obtain authorised instructions for the specific equipment. Do not open sealed equipment or repeatedly reset protection that trips again.
Prepare the escalation
Send the model labels, full identifier privately, exact display, original purchase record and sequence of events. State whether power or water is absent, whether neighbouring supplies are affected and whether equipment was replaced. Ask for a reference and the party responsible for the next step.
Use the Citiq guide where that administrator manages the submeter, or the municipality/Eskom/private administrator responsible for the supply. Keep seller payment recovery separate from a utility fault.
Error-message questions
Does one error number mean the same thing on every brand?
No. Match the full message, model and documentation. Do not apply one vendor's code table to another product.
Can I clear tamper with a generic code?
This guide does not provide one. Use the administrator's authorised inspection and meter-specific process.
